Djokotoe hopeful that self-statutory regulation model will restore sanity in the media

Prominent Journalist and Media trainer, Edem Djokotoe has expressed hope that the self-statutory media regulation model that media practitioners have agreed to adopt will help restore sanity in the journalism fraternity.

Mr. Djokotoe says previously, voluntary self-regulation failed due to various reasons, but notes that the new direction will bring some change.

Mr. Djokotoe says the model that journalists have agreed upon will seek to learn from how the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) operates which censures members who go against set standards.

He indicates that the media is currently faced with numerous challenges, stressing that it is gratifying that practitioners have realized the need to make amends.

And Mr. Djokotoe says he is hopeful that government will not attempt to abrogate the route that media practitioners have agreed to adopt.

Meanwhile, Mr. Djokotoe says the reviving of the Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC) will help resolve most labour disputes that media practitioners are grappling with.
