Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Eastern province has warned that he will not entertain briefcase maize buyers in his chiefdom because they were only promoting theft.
Chief Mpezeni says some people claiming to be farmers, were stealing maize from people’s fields and selling to briefcase buyers .
Chief Mpezeni notes that briefcase buyers were unscrupulously stealing from farmers because they were asking them to sale the maize at a cheaper price lower than that offered by the Food Reserve Agency.
Speaking when Nerlias Investment general manager Martin Chaikatisha called on him at his palace yesterday, Chief Mpezeni also indicated that farmers in the area collected their fertilizer early, but FRA delayed in making payments to the farmers.
